One bullet can change the world. It can start a war. It can trigger a new beginning. It can end something altogether. In the case of THE 8TH ASSASSIN, one bullet is all that’s needed to ignite a story of revenge, hope, family and the struggle to discover one’s own identity that will span cities as disparate as Sarajevo, Vienna and Detroit. It began in 1914 when the Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his pregnant wife Sophie were assassinated in Sarajevo. Their deaths ignited World War I. But in this story, it also sparked the beginning of the saga of Sophie’s yet-to-be-born son, Julius. He was secretly delivered minutes after the assassination then hidden in Switzerland under an assumed identity. Years later, when Julius comes of age and learns his true identity, he narrowly escapes his own death while the lives of those closest to him are jeopardized because of the publicity his newfound identity brings. He journeys to America following a clue about the whereabouts of both his long list family and those who tore it apart.

To be honest; originally I thought I purchased American Assassin by Flynn for a trip I was taking. Upon my surprise on the plane I had downloaded this to my Android phone by mistake. Already in the air and 6 hours of flight time to my destination, I decided to give the book a shot to pass the time. From the 1st chapter to the 46th (it was roughly 5900 pages on my phone via Kindle app) I was truly engaged. I found the book to be a great continuous read, only putting it down for the beverage cart (tomato juice and beer). I still think I could smell the "death" of war early on in the book thanks to the writer's descriptive style. I am not a huge history buff but this was a great story not just a history lesson. Highly recommended and have put this newcomer on my watch list.Product details

The 8th Assassin eBook Peter Levin Reviews
I read 2 books per week. Peter Levin's The 8th Assassin is the #1 historical thriller I have read.He writes in the vein of Dan Brown, Richard North Patterson, Steve Berry, and especially Jeffrey Eugenides. Although this book is a mystery thriller,it taught me a great deal about the cause of World War 1 and the history of my city (Detroit). It is truly a great read.

First time author Peter Levin has written an enjoyable, thoroughly engrossing novel that spans continents, generations, and major worldwide historical events. Beginning with the murder of Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie, Levin exposes us to a story of intrigue, lost love, and mystery. True events are melded with fictional ones to create a story that I found informative, fun, and interesting. It was obviously a 'labor of love' by the author, and surprising that a book of its caliber wasn't published by a major publishing house. But I suppose the readers are the real winners here, as the book is a real bargain. Fans of Tom Clancy, Eric Larson, and Laura Hillenbrand will enjoy this one. I look forward to Levin's next book!
